CJ Karpiak

Writer and creative producer in Los Angeles, with a New York/Chicago theater background. I think in performance, pacing, and the quiet moments that land. I love working in an ensemble and have a quixotic attachment to Shakespeare, Tom Stoppard and Oscar Wilde (I’m realizing as I write this, perhaps I wish I was British…?)

Even when making “simple” ads, I try to write scenes that earn emotion rather than demanding it. I aim to write lines that don’t sound like they came out of a conference room or (God forbid) an AI chat bot.

Writing and producing are what I do on a day-to-day basis, working with clients to help tell their stories and connect with their audiences, but I love to take on directing projects where story, vision, and cast align. I’m at my best when I’m immersed in physical action and exploring dialogue between characters worth watching. I strive to make the kind of stories people finish, then repeat.

I try to remember that “…all subjects do not reside in neat little compartments, but are continuous and inseparable from the one big subject we have been put on Earth to study, which is life itself.”
